Castlemaine landmark
this rather imposing Edwardian ediface placed near the corner of Victory Park no longer serves the purpose for which it was erected in 1915 - namely to house a ...
wait for it ... wait for it
... public drinking fountain!!
it also catered for horses
and even man's best friend was not forgotten

Love it!
My dogs would love to drink out of that, especially Elvis. He seems to find puddles of standing water (even days after rain, ew!) so much more appealing than his own water bowl.
When you said it was placed near the corner of the park, I thought that you were going on to say until 'they' knocked it down! Thank goodness you didn't!
I'm coming back to visit that little corner of Victoria some day - when the weather's warmer!
Lynne, the structure is still there, thank goodness, but if you look closely at the pic of the interior you can see that the drinking fountains have been removed at some point.
Wow.
That's about all I can come up with.
Ah, those wacky Victorians - they didn't do anything by half, did they!!
I love over the top things like that!
