Okay, the first week or so, it's all about the rest and the pain relief, and the 'being looked after' [ thankyou Nadie ], but after a while that begins to get old.
There's only so much tv that one can watch
and it hurts to sit at the computer for more than a few minutes [ stitches ... don't ask ]
so how do people stave off total boredom if they don't knit ... or quilt ... or read ?
I really have no idea [ and don't say gardening, cos I can't do that yet either ]
Anyway, there has been plenty of reading going on, as evidenced by the fact that I'm up to book 60 for the year, and that doesn't count the ones that I started but gave up on halfway through.
It may seem that I'm getting desparate for blogfodder when I post lists like this. but that's just so not true.
There is method to my madness.
Promise.
Y'see, every time I post my booklist, someone who has bothered to wade through it all chimes in with some fabulous author that I haven't discovered yet.
Recently I've been working my way through two authors that I wouldn't have found were it not for rave reviews from Sheepish Annie ... Cassandra Clare and Mike Carey specifically.
As it happens I was able to get the Clares from the Library, but they only had the first of the Careys ... which turned out just fine, because I liked him enough to plonk down my dineros to buy the series [ including the one I'd just read ]
So, in the hope that some more great reads might be forthcoming, here's the 2011 booklist to date:

Ooo! I haven't read any of them - I'm on a classics kick (adult and child fiction) - Dickens, Austin, Montgomery, etc.
I do want to read The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo one day.
I think you would like the Carrie Ryan series, "The Forrest of Hands and Teeth," "The Dead Tossed Waves" and "Dark and Hollow Places." Also, "Sunshine" by Robin McKinley.
Chris has been buying the Karen Rose books lately .... but you would have to talk to him about them.
Eileen Wilkes - Lupi Series
Patricia Briggs - Mercy Thompson series
JD Robb - In Death Series
Catherine Coulter - FBI series
Jayne Ann Krentz - Arcane series.
Just a few that I enjoy.
thanks for all the suggestions so far - you seem to have picked up on the fact that I like distopian urban fantasy [and if it happens to be detective fiction so much the better ]
I've checked the library database and put in a few requests for the first volumes in series
since I posted yesterday I've finished the fourth Mike Carey and started the fifth.
I was going to suggest Tad Williams (having just discovered him myself) but then saw his name pop up way down on the list.
I'm also reading George R.R. Martin, when I can lay my greedy little mitts on one of his books...
(I've just added a bunch of titles/authors to my library list. Thanks!)
Night Watch, by Terry Pratchett.
Carpe Jugulum, by Terry Pratchett.
Monstrous Regiment, By Terry Pratchett.
[all the rest by Terry Pratchett, too, but these seem more immediately like your taste]
Yes Tamar, well spotted. The nightwatch ones are my favourites amongst all of the Pratchetts. The only TP that I never really engaged with was Pyramids. I should give it another go.
oh and all of Pratchett's Witches ones. Gotta love Nanny Ogg!
something a little different... these were recommended to me ...Water for Elephants, The Kite Runner, The Help, The Story of Edward Sawtelle and for something light the The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency ~ Alexander McCall Smith
